New Embassy Office Opening in Cairo

Estonia officially inaugurated its new Cairo embassy on April 7th, signaling a strengthened commitment to strategic cooperation with Egypt in technology, security, and culture.

Cairo holds a special place in Estonian diplomacy; it was the site of Estonia’s very first embassy in both Africa and the Arab world when it opened in 2010. Over the past 34 years, the partnership has evolved from basic recognition to a robust exchange involving technology, innovation, and tourism.

The new embassy, located in the Zamalek district, serves as more than just an administrative hub. According to Estonia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ingrid Amer, the space is designed to be a “calling card” for our nation.

“I am pleased that, on the banks of the Nile and beneath the palm trees, the new premises of our embassy tell Estonia’s story through Nordic interior design, displayed art, and colors from home,” Ambassador Amer stated.

The embassy’s aesthetic reflects Estonia’s unique identity, combining its Nordic roots with a modern outlook, aimed at providing a premier venue for hosting local partners and cultural events.

Lauri Hussar, Speaker of the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu), attended the ceremony and highlighted the new embassy as a testament to the deepening trust between the two nations.

He emphasized their strong collaboration within the UN Human Rights Council and noted the steady expansion of economic ties and  underscored Estonia’s commitment to multi-level cooperation, specifically focusing on sharing its world-class expertise in digitalization and information technology.

“Egypt is a favorite destination for Estonian tourists who like to spend their holidays there,” he said, noting that about 70,000 Estonians visit Egypt annually.”

Building on diplomatic ties established in 1992, the future partnership focuses on digital innovation, defense and economic growth, human rights advocacy, and regional security.
